IRS LogoEarlier this year, Nonprofit VOTE submitted comments to the IRS regarding proposed changes to the political activities of 501(c)(4) organizations.

This month, Adler & Colvin began publishing a list of the Top 25 Comments on the IRS Proposed Political Activity Rules. Nonprofit VOTE was number 18, along with Project VOTE and Rock the Vote.

IRS Commissioner John Koskinen has said that the agency plans to move forward with a revised plan sometime late this year and “In all likelihood we will re-propose a redefined rule and ask for more public comment.” For now, the IRS appears open to at least two of Nonprofit VOTE’s core ideas: having the definition of political activity apply to all 501(c) exempt organizations and maintaining the current definition of nonpartisan activities.
